I started writing this piece after our week-long adventure with the kids in the middle of December, but we all tested positive for COVID shortly after we returned home (be careful out there, things are crazy right now!). Our trip was our first as a family of four, and we began with a brief flight to Atlanta, where we slept for a night, drove to Asheville for a few nights, and then traveled to Charlotte for a few nights before flying home. Traveling with kids is a very different experience than traveling without them, which prompted me to search for the ideal carry-on and travel bag.
I had everything sorted as I was preparing for the trip, but I kept getting stuck on the last item to pack, which seemed like it should be the easiest to settle on: my daily bag for the trip. And it got me thinking: even though I have a lot of bags, and I mean a lot of bags, finding the appropriate bag for traveling still appears to be a unicorn in my bag collection.
What exactly do I mean by "the right bag"? With children, the correct bag becomes more specialized, especially depending on the age of the children. Despite the fact that neither of my children are in diapers, I still travel with wipes, as well as snacks, extra masks, sanitizer, medications, a handful of toys, and my personal belongings. This fills my bag to the brim, yet I still pare it down so it isn't overstuffed.
